IBM Power 780 实训 5:LIC 加载问题与 DVD 拆卸
Exercise 5 – Problem Loading LIC on 9117-MMB
What This Exercise is About
This exercise will take students through analyzing failures to install LIC on a partition using the internal DVD. The system used for this exercise will be assigned by an instructor and the mock-up Titanic.
At the end of the lab, you should be able to:
- Use service documents
- Perform concurrent DVD removal/replacement
- Troubleshoot LIC install issue
- Identify component locations in 9117-MMB
Required Materials
- 9117-MMB system with PHYP running
- Access to service documentation
- ESD Strap
It will take approximately 1.0 hours to complete this exercise
Exercise Instructions
Preface:
You are at a customer site installing a new single CEC 9117-MMB with no expansion units attached and already created “DEFAULT” partition including all hardware. In order to test it, you are trying to install LIC on this default partition, but every attempt including the D-IPL fails with SRCB2004158.
Part A: PD process
For this part of the exercise use the assigned running system.
- Since there are no Serviceable Events in the HMC and no errors in the Event logs on the system, follow the POWER7 Information Center to resolve this issue.
- What is the first step of your PD to follow after you interrogated the SRCB2xx4158 in the reference codes of the Information Center?
_________________________________________________________
- Following the procedure’s steps, document below the selection on your system for the Load Source and the Alternate restart device.
- What is the location code for the tagged LS?
_________________________________________________________
- What is the location code for the tagged alternate restart device?
_________________________________________________________
- The selected devices are correct. So answer “YES” to step 2 of your procedure.
- Assume that the first two items recommended by the documentation were already verified/replaced.
- What is the location code for the next item recommended for replacement by your procedure?
_________________________________________________________
- Using the HMC for the assigned system, concurrently replace (with the same) the FRU identified in the previous step.
- Assume that the problem is still not resolved.
List all FRUs (listed or not in your procedure) required to fix this problem. Use the course material to assist you with identifying various components of SAS subsystem.

- Now continue with Part B
Part B: FRU location identification
Use the mock up system Titanic for this part of the lab. It is recommended to follow removal and replacement procedures to take this mock-up system apart.
- Using the mock-up system Titanic, remove parts necessary to identify the possible failing components listed in Q5 of the part A.
- Use the information gained by reading the SAS subsystem section of the Information Center for the 9117-MMB along with the class material for the 9117-MMB overview.
- Which component listed in Q5 of part A is the most likely failing FRU and it’s location code?
- _________________________________________________________
- _________________________________________________________
- Remove the failing FRU from the mock-up system,

- Once the instructor has initialed, install all the system components you have removed.
End of the LAB
Checkpoint Questions
- What is the location code for the storage adapter for the DVD in the 9117-MMB?
_____________________________________________________________
- Where is the DVD storage adapter located?
