Troubleshooting & Maintenance
Lab Activities
Each person in the group should get the opportunity to connect their laptop to the machine and test all the GUI and XCLI commands.
1: Set up laptop to accept DHCP on Ethernet Port
- Wireless may need to be disabled
2: Check Component LEDs
- Check all LEDs on each component
- Note any error conditions
3: Connect Laptop to Technician port, check connectivity
- Check to make sure you have received an address from DHCP server
- ipconfig /all
- Ping 14.10.202.250
4: Start GUI
- Check to make sure system is Fully Redundant
- Check to make sure all components are available
5: Start XCLI
- Xcli –c INSTALL –u <用户名> –p <密码> state_list
- What is “system_state” value? _________
6: Check Events
- Check events using GUI
- Check events using XCLI
- Note last entry time ___________________
- Check Internal events using XCLI
- Xcli –c INSTALL –u <用户名> –p <密码> event_list internal=yes
7: Phase out a drive - GUI
- Right click on any drive in the system. Select Phase Out -> Failed
- Note what happens
- Wait for system to become redundant
- Physically reseat the drive you phased out (Make sure it’s the correct one!!!)
- What happens to available space?
- Right click on the drive and perform “Test”
- Wait for drive to become “Yellow”
- Right click on the drive and phase it back in.
8: Phase out a drive – XCLI
- xcli –c INSTALL component_list filter=notok
- xcli –c INSTALL component_phaseout component=1:Disk:12:5
- xcli –c INSTALL component_list filter=notok
- Wait for “failed” state
- xcli –c INSTALL monitor_redist
- Wait for “No Processes”
- Physically reseat the drive you phase out (Make sure it’s the correct one!!!)
- xcli –c INSTALL component_test
- xcli –c INSTALL component_list filter=notok
- Wait for “Ready” state
- xcli –c INSTALL component_phasein component==1:Disk:12:5
- xcli –c INSTALL component_list filter=notok
- Drive should not appear in the list
9: Check Events
- Check to see what events were created during this activity
- Check internal events to see what entries were created during this activity
10: Phase out an entire module (Chose module 5 or 6)
- Perform the same sequence of events to phase out an entire module using GUI and XCLI
- What happens to available space?
- What happens to UPSes? Why?
- UPS should not go offline at GA. UPS should become active once communications are restored (may have to perform “Test”)
11: Check Events
- Check to see what events were created during this activity
- Check internal events to see what entries were created during this activity
12: Phase out a UPS
- Perform the same sequence of events to phase out a UPS using GUI and XCLI
- Once Phased Out, practice removal of battery
- Do not need to run “Test” on UPS or RPS
13: Check Events
- Check to see what events were created during this activity
- Check internal events to see what entries were created during this activity
14: Simulate a failed drive by physically pulling a drive out without phasing it out
- Check Events to see the new entries created
- Use steps above to test and phase drive back in
15: Simulate a failed UPS by turning one off using the power button on the front
- Be sure the other 2 UPSes are operational before performing this task
- Check Events to see the new entries created
- Turn UPS back on. It should become available without any further action
16: Simulate a failed module by pulling power to a running module
- Check Events to see the new entries created
- Use steps above to test and phase module back in
